Focusing on Doherty Power Amplifiers for S-Band

2012 19th International Conference on Microwaves, Radar & Wireless Communications, 2012
The aim of this paper is to provide an overview of the actual state-of-art about the Doherty Power Amplifier (DPA) for S-Band application and to present a new realization using GaN devices able to provide 41dBm saturated output power with 60% drain efficiency and 10dB gain at 2.14GHz.

Simplified Doherty power amplifier structures

2015 Texas Symposium on Wireless and Microwave Circuits and Systems (WMCS), 2015
We present two simplified Doherty power amplifier (DPA) structures to eliminate a quarter-wavelength impedance inverter used in the conventional DPA structure. The simplified DPA structures reduce the number of the impedance inverters, therefore they can be easily adopted in the broadband/multi-band applications of the DPA.

Doherty-to-Balanced Switchable Power Amplifier

2019 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS), 2019
A novel Doherty-to-balanced (D2B) switchable power amplifiers (PAs) architecture based on branch-line quadrature hybrid couplers is presented. It is for the first time unveiled that by switching the 50-Ω loading at isolation port to a short circuit to ground, the balanced amplifier can be fully converted to a Doherty PA.

Odd-mode Doherty power amplifier

2016 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium (IMS), 2016
This paper presents a novel doherty architecture, providing wideband efficient RF power amplification along-with wideband class-AB second harmonic terminations for a rugged and reliable operation. A prototype is developed, based on this architecture which provides more than 40% average efficiency at an average output power of 220W over most of the UHF ...

Broadband doherty power amplifier and linearization

2016 46th European Microwave Conference (EuMC), 2016
This paper will review the recent progress in broadband Doherty power amplifier (PA) and low feedback sampling rate digital predistortion (DPD) techniques. Continuous mode impedance matching method is proposed for Doherty PA for bandwidth enhancement, which utilizes the cross-matching technique to realize the physical output matching network.

A Wideband 100W Doherty Power Amplifier

2019 IEEE 19th Mediterranean Microwave Symposium (MMS), 2019
In this paper, design, fabrication and measurement results of a Doherty power amplifier (DPA) with a fractional bandwidth of wider than 90% is reported. An inverter-less architecture was used to overcome intrinsic bandwidth limitation of conventional DPAs.

The Doherty power amplifier

2009
The Doherty power amplifier (DPA) is hereby presented and described starting from the basic idea up to more advanced and state-of-art results and guidelines. The DPA historical aspect is also covered, describing the timeline of its evolution. Moreover, the reasons related to why this architecture, roughly 80 years after its invention, is still on its ...

Design of Continuous Doherty Power Amplifier

2019 International Conference on Microwave and Millimeter Wave Technology (ICMMT), 2019
The continuous Doherty power amplifier (DPA) design is presented in this paper. Two 10-Watts Cree GaN devices are employed to design the continuous DPA. The measured results show that the continuous DPA achieves a power-added efficiency (PAE) of 40%-70% at the peak power and a PAE higher than 35% at the 6-dB output power back-off (OPBO) point in the ...

Doherty Goes Digital: Digitally Enhanced Doherty Power Amplifiers

IEEE Microwave Magazine, 2016
Efficiency enhancement techniques for high-power amplification systems are now mature technologies, with Doherty power amplifiers (PAs) being widely used in field-deployed wireless base stations. A typical Doherty PA consists of two parallel amplifiers (a carrier amplifier, biased in class-AB, and a peaking amplifier, biased in class-C), an input ...

A 70% GaN doherty power amplifier

2016 International Conference on Communication and Signal Processing (ICCSP), 2016
This paper discusses the design of wideband Doherty amplifier. Design strategy basically depends upon the elimination of bandwidth constraints in basic Doherty amplifier as pointed by the investigation, which are quarter wave impedance transformer and capacitance at the transistor output terminal.
