Deciphering MCR-2 Colistin Resistance

open access: yesmBio, 2017
Antibiotic resistance is a prevalent problem in public health worldwide. In general, the carbapenem β-lactam antibiotics are considered a final resort against lethal infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria.

Tandem domain swapping: determinants of multidomain protein misfolding.

open access: yesCurr Opin Struct Biol, 2019
Tandem homologous domains in proteins are susceptible to misfolding through the formation of domain swaps, non-native conformations involving the exchange of equivalent structural elements between adjacent domains. Cutting-edge biophysical experiments have recently allowed the observation of tandem domain swapping events at the single molecule level ...

Writing and Reading antiferromagnetic Mn$_2$Au: N\'eel spin-orbit torques and large anisotropic magnetoresistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Antiferromagnets are magnetically ordered materials which exhibit no net moment and thus are insensitive to magnetic fields. Antiferromagnetic spintronics aims to take advantage of this insensitivity for enhanced stability, while at the same time active ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Content Swapping: A New Image Synthesis for Construction Sign Detection in Autonomous Vehicles

open access: yesSensors, 2022
Construction signs alert drivers to the dangers of abnormally blocked roads. In the case of autonomous vehicles, construction signs should be detected automatically to prevent accidents.

Attribute-Guided Face Generation Using Conditional CycleGAN

open access: yes, 2018
We are interested in attribute-guided face generation: given a low-res face input image, an attribute vector that can be extracted from a high-res image (attribute image), our new method generates a high-res face image for the low-res input that ...

Quantum dynamics under coherent and incoherent effects of a spin bath in the Keldysh formalism: application to a spin swapping operation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We develop the Keldysh formalism for the polarization dynamics of an open spin system. We apply it to the swapping between two qubit states in a model describing an NMR cross-polarization experiment. The environment is a set of interacting spins.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Role of KASH domain lengths in the regulation of LINC complexes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The linker of the nucleoskeleton and cytoskeleton (LINC) complex is formed by the conserved interactions between Sad-1 and UNC-84 (SUN) and Klarsicht, ANC-1, SYNE homology (KASH) domain proteins, providing a physical coupling between the nucleoskeleton ...

Swapping trajectories: a new wall-induced cross-streamline particle migration mechanism in a dilute suspension of spheres

open access: yes, 2007
Binary encounters between spherical particles in shear flow are studied for a system bounded by a single planar wall or two parallel planar walls under creeping flow conditions. We show that wall proximity gives rise to a new class of binary trajectories
