ABSTRACT While oasis settlements emerged during the Bronze Age in Eastern and Northern Arabia, the settlement process in Central Arabia was different. Excavations at al‐Yamāma—main ancient settlement of the al‐Kharj oasis (Riyadh Province, KSA)—suggest that the latter did not emerge before the second half of the first millennium BCE.

Effect of isolation on coat colour polymorphism of Polynesian rats in Island Southeast Asia and the Pacific [PDF]
Populations of vertebrate species introduced onto islands regularly develop similar phenotypic changes, e.g., larger or smaller body size, shortened limbs, duller coats, as well as behavioural changes such as increased tameness and reduced flight ...

A network analysis of failure pathways for fish and fish habitat offsets
Biodiversity offsets are widely used to compensate for environmental impacts, yet failures often arise from interacting factors rather than isolated issues. By analyzing co‐occurrence patterns across 48 fish and fish habitat case studies, we identify five recurring failure syndromes: foundational, implementation uncertainty, biological, hydrological ...

Tachinidae (Diptera) as Floral Visitors and Pollinators in Natural and Managed Systems
We review the roles of bristle flies (Tachinidae) as pollinators in natural and managed systems. We find that most tachinid genera visit flowers and that floral‐adapted mouthparts have evolved repeatedly many times in the family. We review patterns of floral specificity and assess the efficacy of tachinids as pollinators with case studies.

The effect of plant domestication on host control of the microbiota
Soldan and co-authors propose an evolutionary framework for understanding how host control of the microbiota is influenced by artificial selection. They go on to discuss the potential effect of domestication syndrome on the seed microbiome and plant ...

Summary Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae was the causative agent of vegetative endocarditis and vertebral osteomyelitis in a 24‐year‐old Irish draught gelding that presented with prolonged history of intermittent pyrexia and tachycardia. Clinical investigations revealed persistently reduced neck mobility, tachydysrhythmia and episodic pyrexia up to 41°C ...
