Rice is believed to show photosynthetic symmetry between adaxial and abaxial leaf sides. To verify this, we re-examined dorsoventral asymmetry in photosynthesis, chlorophyll fluorescence and anatomical traits in flag leaves of two Oryza sativa cultivars ...

Multiscale modeling of dorsoventral patterning in Drosophila
Seminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 2014The role of mathematical models of signaling networks is showcased by examples from Drosophila development. Three models of consecutive stages in dorsoventral patterning are presented. We begin with a compartmental model of intracellular reactions that generates a gradient of nuclear-localized Dorsal, exhibiting constant shape and dynamic amplitude.

Anteroposterior and Dorsoventral Patterning
2006The predominant method of achieving a patterned vertebrate nervous system involves responses to signaling from an asymmetrical source. This instigates the activation of new transcription factors in the responding tissue, which leads to a cascade of cellular changes that generate additional asymmetry and cell differentiation.

Leafbladeless1 is required for dorsoventrality of lateral organs in maize
Development, 1998ABSTRACT The maize leafbladeless1 (lbl1) mutant displays a variety of leaf and plant phenotypes. The most extreme manifestation in the leaf is the formation of radially symmetric, abaxialized leaves due to a complete loss of adaxial cell types.

e uplotes dorsoventrally flattened ciliates
2015Euplotes spread into every aquatic habitat of our planet and diversified into dozens of species that can promptly be identified taxonomically on the basis of well‐established diagnostic traits related to their ciliary and cortical structures. In large numbers, they can be easily collected and cultivated in laboratory for years with no apparent sign of ...

Dorsoventral asymmetry of colour discrimination in bees
Journal of Comparative Physiology A: Sensory, Neural, and Behavioral Physiology, 1999Colour discrimination performance of honeybees was examined by training bees to a two-coloured disc presented on a vertical plane. Access to the food reward was through the centre of the disc. In one experiment, the upper half of the disc was yellow, and the lower half blue. In another experiment, this was vice versa.

Mesenchymal signaling in dorsoventral differentiation of palatal epithelium
Cell and Tissue Research, 2015After palatal fusion, the dorsal and ventral epithelia of the palatal shelf differentiate into the nasal and oral mucosa, respectively. The tissue-specific differentiation of palatal epithelia along the dorsal-ventral axis is regulated by the signaling molecules expressed in the underlying mesenchyme.

Dorsoventral axis determination in the somite: a re-examination
Development, 2000ABSTRACTWe have repeated classic dorsoventral somite rotation experiments (Aoyama and Asamoto, 1988, Development 104, 15-28) and included dorsal and ventral gene expression markers for the somitogenic tissue types, myotome and sclerotome, respectively.

The role of dorsoventral interaction in the onset of planarian regeneration
Development, 1999Abstract During planarian regeneration, dorsal and ventral tissues adhere to each other as a result of wound closure. To investigate the role of dorsoventral (DV) interaction in regeneration, dorsal and ventral portions were ectopically reoriented relative to each other by grafting.

The origin of dorsoventral patterning of the vertebrate nervous system
Trends in Genetics, 1997The fields of evolution and development have a close affinity in that they both concem themselves with the problem of the generation of form. Studies in either discipline complement each other, and have led to a dearer perspective of how the structure and order of the body plan arise.
