Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Is Indoor Air Pollution the Missing Link Between Radon and Lung Cancer? Rethinking Epidemiological Support for the LNT Model

open access: yesDose-Response
The validity of the linear-no-threshold (LNT) model in radiation regulation remains contested. Although extensive experimental evidence challenges it, epidemiological studies—especially cohort and case-control designs—are still used to justify its ...

Observations on the Chernobyl Disaster and LNT

open access: yesDose-Response, 2010
The Chernobyl accident was probably the worst possible catastrophe of a nuclear power station. It was the only such catastrophe since the advent of nuclear power 55 years ago.

Universality of J-Shaped and U-Shaped Dose-Response Relations as Emergent Properties of Stochastic Transition Systems

open access: yes, 2005
Dose-response data for many chemical carcinogens exhibit multiple apparent concentration thresholds. A relatively small increase in exposure concentration near such a threshold disproportionately increases incidence of a specific tumor type.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Optimal designs for estimating critical effective dose under model uncertainty in a dose response study [PDF]

open access: yes
Toxicologists have been increasingly using a class of models to describe a continuous response in the last few years. This class consists of nested nonlinear models and is used for estimating various parameters in the models or some meaningful function ...

Effect of Gamma Rays on Adropin as a Potential Hepatokine Marker for Liver Damage in Male Albino Rats

open access: yesDose-Response
Purpose This work was the first study to show the impact of γ- radiation on adropin levels in the serum and liver tissue of male albino rats. Methods Liver tissue and blood samples of rats were collected at 1, 3, 7 and 14 days after whole-body exposure ...

Association between Local External Gamma Rays and Frequency of Cancer in Babol-Iran

open access: yesDose-Response, 2010
Introduction The effect of natural background radiation on Cancer is still challenging. The investigation of association between external gamma rays and Cancer was the main goal of study.

Optimal designs for dose-response models with restricted design spaces [PDF]

open access: yes
In dose response studies, the dose range is often restricted due to concerns over drug toxicity and/or efficacy. We present restricted and unrestricted interval locally optimal designs with respect to a very general class of optimality criteria for ...

A Review: Development of a Microdose Model for Analysis of Adaptive Response and Bystander Dose Response Behavior

open access: yes, 2008
Prior work has provided incremental phases to a microdosimetry modeling program to describe the dose response behavior of the radio-protective adaptive response effect.
