Evaluation of the Validity of a Nonlinear J-Shaped Dose-Response Relationship in Cancers Induced by Exposure to Radiofrequency Electromagnetic Fields

open access: yesJournal of Biomedical Physics and Engineering, 2019
The radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMFs) produced by widely used mobile phones are classified as possibly carcinogenic to humans by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Blocking the voltage‐gated sodium channel hNav1.5 as a novel pH‐dependent mechanism of action for tamoxifen

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Patch‐clamp recordings revealed that tamoxifen inhibits voltage‐gated sodium channels, especially under acidic conditions, both common in metastatic cancer cells. These effects may explain certain antitumor properties of tamoxifen, highlighting a novel mechanism of action beyond its known endocrine effects.

Model identification for dose response signal detection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We consider the problem of detecting a dose response signal if several competing regression models are available to describe the dose response relationship. In particular, we re-analyze the MCP-Mod approach from Bretz et al. (2005), which has become a

Stromagenesis and cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity in primary tumors and metastasis: focus in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) play different roles in NSCLC progression and metastasis. Their heterogeneous origins and phenotypes shape the tumor microenvironment and influence metastatic spread. This review highlights NSCLC CAF subtypes, their potential cellular sources, and their differential distribution across primary tumors and distant ...

Dose-response relationships in determining the safety:efficacy ratio

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine, 1997
The development of inhaled agonists selective for beta 2-adrenoceptors and high potency corticosteroids has improved the treatment of asthma. The delivery of the drugs to the site of action reduces the systemic exposure and hence reduces adverse systemic events. Together, these factors have resulted in improved toxicity: therapeutic ratios. Long-acting

Microbial profile of the appendix niche in acute appendicitis: a novel sampling approach

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study utilized a novel sampling method, ERAT (i.e. endoscopic retrograde appendicitis treatment)‐guided lumen aspiration, to obtain samples from the appendix, and shotgun metagenomic sequencing was performed for in situ characterization of the appendix microbiome in patients with acute appendicitis.

Cabozantinib in hepatocellular carcinoma: results of a phase 2 placebo-controlled randomized discontinuation study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
BackgroundCabozantinib, an orally bioavailable inhibitor of tyrosine kinases including MET, AXL, and VEGF receptors, was assessed in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) as part of a phase 2 randomized discontinuation trial with nine tumor-type ...
