Preclinical Determinants of Drug Choice under Concurrent Schedules of Drug Self-Administration [PDF]
Drug self-administration procedures have played a critical role in the experimental analysis of psychoactive compounds, such as cocaine, for over 50 years. While there are numerous permutations of this procedure, this paper will specifically focus on choice procedures using concurrent schedules of intravenous drug self-administration.

Online scheduling using a fixed template: the case of outpatient chemotherapy drug administration [PDF]
AbstractIn this paper, we use a fixed template of slots for the online scheduling of appointments. The template is a link between planning the service capacity at a tactical level and online scheduling at an operational level. We develop a detailed heuristic for the case of drug administration appointments in outpatient chemotherapy.

Random-ratio schedules produce greater demand for i.v. drug administration than fixed-ratio schedules in rhesus monkeys [PDF]
Organisms emit more responses when food is provided according to random as compared with fixed schedules of reinforcement. Similarly, many human behaviors deemed compulsive are maintained on variable schedules (e.g., gambling). If greater amounts of behavior are maintained by drugs of abuse when earned according to variably reinforced schedules, this ...

Low-dose (5 mg/kg) desferrioxamine treatment in acutely aluminium-intoxicated haemodialysis patients using two drug administration schedules [PDF]
According to the recommendations proposed at The Consensus Conference on Diagnosis and Treatment of Aluminium Overload in End-Stage Renal Failure Patients, Paris, 1992 low-dose desferrioxamine (DFO) treatment was applied for the first time in 41 acutely aluminium-intoxicated patients.DFO-related neurological/ophthalmological side-effects were observed ...

Defining the Optimal Schedule of Drug Administration: Art or Science? [PDF]
The optimal use of the oral fluoropyrimidine carbamate capecitabine (Xeloda; Hoffman-Roche, Nutley, NJ) has been the subject of much debate, with empirical exploration of both doses and schedules different from those approved. In the current issue of the Journal, Traina et al describe a phase I trial of a 7-day capecitabine schedule derived rationally ...

Intranasal cocaine self-administration in male mice [PDF]
Intravenous drug self-administration has been widely used in behavioral neuroscience to model addiction and heightened motivational states; however, the technique is notoriously difficult and its utility has been in steady decline.

Enhanced self-administration of the CB1 receptor agonist WIN55,212-2 in olfactory bulbectomized rats: evaluation of possible serotonergic and dopaminergic underlying mechanisms [PDF]
Depression has been associated with drug consumption, including heavy or problematic cannabis use. According to an animal model of depression and substance use disorder comorbidity, we combined the olfactory bulbectomy model of depression with ...

Nicotine and cocaine self-administration using a multiple schedule of intravenous drug and sucrose reinforcement in rats [PDF]
There appears to be a relatively narrow range of contingencies in which intravenous (i.v) infusions of nicotine will maintain responding in rats. The schedule of reinforcement typically used when investigating i.v. nicotine self-administration is a simple fixed-ratio (FR) schedule.
