Drug checking: a potential solution to the opioid overdose epidemic?

open access: yesSubstance Abuse Treatment, Prevention, and Policy, 2018
Background North America is experiencing an overdose epidemic driven in part by the proliferation of illicitly-manufactured fentanyl and related analogues. In response, communities are scaling up novel overdose prevention interventions. Included are drug

Design of a wireless patient diagnosis system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Medical administrative and diagnosis procedures require the retrieval of patient diagnosis history before treatments and drug administration. This involves careful checking of the patient past record which might be stored electronically or in paper ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Towards Cancer Hybrid Automata

open access: yes, 2012
This paper introduces Cancer Hybrid Automata (CHAs), a formalism to model the progression of cancers through discrete phenotypes. The classification of cancer progression using discrete states like stages and hallmarks has become common in the biology ...

QSAR study for carcinogenicity in a large set of organic compounds [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In our continuing efforts to find out acceptable Absorption, Distribution, Metabolization, Elimination and Toxicity (ADMET) properties of organic compounds, we establish linear QSAR models for the carcinogenic potential prediction of 1464 compounds taken

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.
