Cuban natural palygorskite nanoclays for the removal of sulfamethoxazole from aqueous solutions [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Water pollution with pharmaceutical and personal care products has become a serious environmental. A reasonable strategy to mitigate the problem involves absorbent materials. In particular, the use of natural clays is an advantageous alternative considering their high adsorption capacity and compatibility with the environment.

Environmental Contamination with Hazardous Drugs in Quebec Hospitals

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, 2012
Since publication of the US National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health alert on hazardous drugs in 2004, many health care organizations have reviewed their procedures for handling hazardous drugs. Occupational exposure may occur when handling, compounding, or administering a drug considered to be hazardous, at any stage from storage to waste

Respiratory complex I‐mediated NAD+ regeneration regulates cancer cell proliferation through the transcriptional and translational control of p21Cip1 expression by SIRT3 and SIRT7

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
NAD+ regeneration by mitochondrial complex I NADH dehydrogenase is important for cancer cell proliferation. Specifically, NAD+ is necessary for the activities of NAD+‐dependent deacetylases SIRT3 and SIRT7, which suppress the expression of p21Cip1 cyclin‐dependent kinase inhibitor, an antiproliferative molecule, at the translational and transcriptional

Fungal contamination and mycotoxin detection of powdered herbal drugs [PDF]

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology, 1978
Forty-nine powdered herbal drugs were analyzed for their mold profile and for the potential presence of three mycotoxins (aflatoxin, sterigmatocystin, ochratoxin A). Aspergillus and Penicillium species were predominant, but Rhizopus, Mucor, Cladosporium, and Aureobasidium spp. were also found in a few samples.

Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early breast cancers is associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

Simian virus 40, poliovirus vaccines, and human cancer: research progress versus media and public interests

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 2000
From 1955 through early 1963, millions of people were inadvertently exposed to simian virus 40 (SV40) as a contaminant of poliovirus vaccines; the virus had been present in the monkey kidney cultures used to prepare the vaccines and had escaped detection.
