Dose- and endpoint-dependent effects of perioperative esketamine in children: evidence from a targeted review

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics
Esketamine is being evaluated for several paediatric perioperative indications, including analgesia, procedural sedation, attenuation of propofol injection pain, and prevention of emergence delirium (ED) or emergence agitation (EA).

Extracellular vesicle lipidomics liquid biopsy reveals systemic and tumor microenvironment metabolic reprogramming in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Extracellular vesicle (EV) lipidomic profiling of plasma and ascites from patients with high‐grade serous ovarian cancer and of ovarian cancer cell lines reveals enrichment of triglycerides (TGs), diacylglycerols (DGs), phosphatidylcholine (PCs), sphingomyelins (SMs), reflecting tumor metabolic reprogramming.

SPHINX31 acts as a SRPK1 inhibitor targeting the ATR/DNA‐PKcs/CHK1 replicative checkpoint to inhibit cell growth in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The kinase SRPK1 directly interacts with the protein TOPBP1 and regulates the pre‐mRNA splicing of WIZ thereby contributing to the activation of the ATR/CHK1 replicative checkpoint in response to replicative stress. This allows cancer cells' genomic stability and survival.

Risk factors for tigecycline-associated drug-induced liver injury in critically Ill patients: a 2020–2023 retrospective study from a Chinese hospital

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Tigecycline is extensively used in Chinese intensive care unit (ICU) for multidrug-resistant infections, yet the profile of its associated drug-induced liver injury (DILI) requires further investigation.

An outer membrane vesicle‐associated two‐track model for enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis oncogenesis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Enterotoxigenic Bacteroides fragilis is a gut bacterium linked to bowel cancer. We propose that its toxin acts along two routes: at the cell surface, cutting the adhesion protein E‐cadherin and triggering inflammation; and inside the cell, delivered by bacterial vesicles, switching on NOD1 and cancer stem cell programs.

From energy provision to protein synthesis: Tunnelling nanotubes as mediators of intercellular metabolic cooperation in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The cytoskeleton‐mediated transport of mitochondria via tunnelling nanotubes restores respiration, increases ATP production, rescues cells from apoptosis, activates the AKT/mTOR signalling pathway, promotes cell migration and invasiveness, contributes to cancer progression and treatment resistance.

A Method to Evaluate Hormesis in Nanoparticle Dose-Responses

open access: yes, 2012
The term hormesis describes a dose-response relationship that is characterized by a response that is opposite above and below the toxicological or pharmacological threshold. Previous reports have shown that this relationship is ubiquitous in the response
