Drug synergism as a basis for rational neuroprotection
Zhurnal nevrologii i psikhiatrii im. S.S. Korsakova, 2022Optimization of the choice of neuroprotective therapy regimens in patients with CVD, taking into account the synergism of drug interactions, is basic in real clinical practice. Unfortunately, in modern pharmacology there is no unified way to establish the synergistic spectrum of action of drugs, which would allow systematic investigation of the effects

Teratogenic Risks of Drug Synergism
Nature, 1964IT is well known that the effectiveness of teratogens, measured either in incidence or in severity of resulting malformations, is frequently modified, in a plus or minus direction, by unrelated external conditions. The mechanisms by which these modifying agencies operate are largely unknown.

Communicating Synergism in Drug Combination Studies
Arzneimittelforschung, 2011Isobolograms are used to identify synergistic effects of drugs given in combination. However, the traditional isobologram provides only a qualitative determination of synergism. The present report describes two procedures for quantifying the synergistic actions of drugs based on isobolographic plots.

Synergism between Histamine, Antihistamines, and Hypnotic Drugsā
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1952The synergism between antihistamines and the barbiturate Evipal was studied in mice. Similar synergism was found between histamine and barbiturates and between antihistamines and ether. The possible clinical usefulness of these findings is discussed. Thephorin, in mice, shows a synergistic effect with barbiturates or ether similar to that of Benadryl ...

Drug Synergism: Its Detection and Applications
The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, 2001Two drugs that produce overtly similar effects will sometimes produce exaggerated or diminished effects when used concurrently. A quantitative assessment is necessary to distinguish these cases from simply additive action. This distinction is based on the classic pharmacologic definition of additivity that, briefly stated, means that each constituent ...

A Fatality Due to Drug Synergism
Medicine, Science and the Law, 1982Thioridazine is a phenothiazine tranquillizer with specificity for psychotherapeutic action. It is well tolerated but will induce changes in myocardial repolarization which are further aggravated in the presence of low blood potassium levels. Fatalities due to overdosage of thioridazine are rare and those associated with therapeutic dosage and cross ...

Synergism of Three Antimicrobial Drugs
Nature, 1966COMBINED therapy with two or more antibacterial drugs may be useful in the treatment of an individual case, and in discouraging the development of resistance1. A formula was previously presented which could be used in evaluating the combined effect of two drugs2.

A Test for Synergism Between Two Drugs
Applied Statistics, 1976A likelihood ratio test is devised to detect the presence of synergism between two drugs which have similar actions. An example is given.

The interaction index: a measure of drug synergism
Pain, 2002Two drugs used in combination may produce enhanced or reduced effects. The degree of enhancement or reduction is measured from the interaction index (gamma), a quantity that indicates the changed potency of the combination. The index is therefore a quantitative marker for the drug combination and effect metric used.

Informatics of Drug Synergism in Naturally Occurring Anticancer Agents
Recent Patents on Anti-Cancer Drug Discovery, 2011Cancer is a multi-factorial disease resulting in uncontrolled division of body cells, with difficult and complex suppression. The main treatment strategy for this disease depends on killing of tumor cells that usually exist in the proximity of normal body cells. During the course of treatment, the healthy cells should not be affected by the toxic doses
