An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

A study on wear rates of 100Cr6 steel running against sintered steel surfaces under dry and starved lubrication [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This paper investigates the tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel pin running against sintered steel bearing material used in hermetic compressors. Tests were conducted under dry and starved lubrication sliding conditions in air at room temperature ...

Phase dynamics and kinetics of thin lubricant film driven by correlated temperature fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The melting of an ultrathin lubricant film is studied at friction between atomically flat surfaces. We take into account fluctuations of lubricant temperature, which are defined by the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process.

Dry Sliding Behaviour of AlCrN and TiN Coatings [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Research, 2012
This paper examines the friction behaviour of AlCrN and TiN PVD coatings in atmospheric air and vacuum using a ball-on-disc and a reciprocating tribotesters. Comparative study on the coating sliding in air and in high vacuum environment provides important insight on the effect of oxidation on the friction behaviour of the coatings.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A Piecewise-Conserved Constant of Motion for a Dissipative System [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We discuss a piecewise-conserved constant of motion for a simple dissipative oscillatory mechanical system. The system is a harmonic oscillator with sliding (dry) friction. The piecewise-conserved constant of motion corresponds to the time average of the

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

Application of Taguchi Approache to Study the Effect of Filler Type on Tribological Behavior of Polymer Composite Under Dry Conditions [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2014
The tribological behaviour of a G-P ( glass-polyester ) composite system and G-P composite systems interfaced with graded fillers were tested. The composite materials of G-P and G-P reinforced with SiC and Graphite particles as secondary fillers were ...

Cell‐cycle‐specific lesion evolution rather than inhibition of double‐strand‐break repair underpins cisplatin radiosensitization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We analyze cisplatin–DNA adducts (CDAs) and double‐strand breaks (DSBs) in a cell‐cycle‐dependent manner. We find that CDAs form similarly across all cell cycle phases. DSBs arise only in S‐phase. CDAs might not directly impair DSB repair, but S‐phase DSB lesions evolve in the presence of CDAs and disrupt repair in G2, also causing radiosensitization ...
