Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Drying characteristics of New Zealand Chestnuts

open access: yes, 2007
Chestnut is a relatively new nut crop to New Zealand and they do grow well in New Zealand conditions. Research to date in New Zealand indicated that New Zealand chestnuts present some unique features compared to chestnuts world wide.

Shrinkage of recycled paper sheet during drying

open access: yes, 2015
The properties of recycled paper are strongly affected by shrinking during drying, which depends on the drying conditions. An experimental study of the shrinkage phenomenon during drying of paper is presented.

Dried Beetroots: Optimization of the Osmotic Dehydration Process and Storage Stability

open access: yesFoods
In this study, beetroots were osmotically dehydrated in sugar beet molasses. The input parameters of the drying process were varied: temperature (20 °C, 40 °C, and 60 °C), time (1 h, 3 h, and 5 h), and concentration of sugar beet molasses (40%, 60%, and ...

PARP inhibitors induce a senescence phenotype in non‐small cell lung carcinoma cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Talazoparib is the most potent inducer of senescence among different PARP1 inhibitors in human NSCLC cells. In the absence of PARP, no senescence phenotype was observed, demonstrating that PARP1 is necessary for the induction of senescence by this inhibitor.

Theoretical Study Of Intermittent Drying (tempering) In Prolate Spheroidal Bodies

open access: yes, 2015
The process of intermittent drying in prolate spheroidal bodies was simulated assuming liquid diffusion to be the sole mass transport process, a constant diffusion coefficient and equilibrium conditions at the surface.

Effect of Drying Conditions and Jojoba Oil Incorporation on the Selected Physical Properties of Hydrogel Whey Protein-Based Edible Films

open access: yesGels
Edible hydrogel coatings or films in comparison to conventional food packaging materials are characterized as thin layers obtained from biopolymers that can be applied or enveloped onto the surface of food products.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

High-temperature drying of organically grown bread rye

open access: yes, 2002
Mycotoxin producing fungi are naturally occurring components in cereals. When produced, some of the mycotoxins are toxic to humans and animals. Heat treatment is a method to reduce fungal abundance on cereals.

Mathematical modelling and computer simulation of heat and mass transfer in agricultural grain drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
Mathematical modelling and computer simulation of grain drying are now widely used in agricultural engineering research. Several models have been proposed to describe the heat and mass transfer processes in the basic types of convective grain drier ...
