Drying of post-harvest rough rice with silica gel: A preliminary investigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Rice drying operations can encounter problems of over drying and losses in head rice yield (HRY) through the formation of fissures. Typical rice drying methods also utilize large volumes of expensive fossil fuels to dry the kernels. Drying of rice with a

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Study on the physicochemical properties and gelation characteristics of pea protein isolate modified by ultrasonic-assisted succinylation

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
Ultrasound could facilitate the succinylation of protein and improve the function of succinylated protein. However, the effects of ultrasound-assisted succinylation on the physicochemical property and gelation characteristics of PPI were scarely reported.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Prediction of 3D printability and rheological properties of different pineapple gel formulations based on LF-NMR

open access: yesFood Chemistry: X
In this study, a pineapple-starch-xanthan gum system was prepared using fresh pineapple juice, maize starch, and xanthan gum (XG). The feasibility of using low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR) to predict pineapple gels' rheological properties ...

Hard colloidal rods near a soft wall: wetting, drying, and symmetry breaking

open access: yes, 2006
Within an Onsager-like density functional theory we explore the thermodynamic and structural properties of an isotropic and nematic fluid of hard needle-like colloids in contact with a hard substrate coated with a soft short-ranged attractive or ...

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

The role of Bacterial-Fungal interactions in cigar tobacco fermentation: insights from community dynamics and physicochemical correlations

open access: yesBMC Microbiology
During the fermentation of cigar tobacco leaves, cross-kingdom interactions between fungal and bacterial communities collectively regulate the formation of flavor compounds and reduce the content of irritating compounds.

Study on the Contact Parameter Calibration of the Maize Kernel Polyhedral Discrete Element Model

open access: yesAgriculture
During maize production and transportation, maize kernels frequently interact with mechanical components. To accurately simulate the interaction process between maize and mechanical components, it is essential to establish a reliable maize kernel model ...
