Mathematical models to describe thin-layer drying and to determine drying rate of whole bananas

open access: yes, 2014
Banana is a fruit produced in most tropical countries. According to the literature, the post-harvest loss is about 40% of the production. To reduce the losses, an alternative is to dry the product.

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Modeling and simulation of drying operation in PVC powder production line: a pneumatic dryer model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
A one-dimensional steady-state model is developed to simulate drying of PVC powder in a pneumatic dryer. In this model, a two-phase continuum model was used to describe the steady-state flow of a dilute dispersed phase (wet PVC powder) and a continuous ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Analysing the drying behavior of juvenile and mature Eucalyptus saligna wood in drastic drying test for optimal drying schedule

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2016
The heterogeneity of characteristics observed in the pith-bark direction within a log causes sawn pieces of wood have different behaviors during water removal.

Drying Characteristics of Lime (Citrus aurantifolia [Christm.] Swingle) at Different Temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Drying rate of lime was determined experimentally as a function of drying temperature. Single layer drying data obtained at four different temperatures (45, 60, 70 and 100ºC) were fitted to the logarithmic drying model.

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Drying of sapwood analyzed as an invasion percolation process

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2014
The sapwood fibers in green softwood are normally filled – or nearly filled – with free water. This water forms a continuous phase through the narrow bordered pits between fiber lumens.

Water absorption and drying shrinkage of recycled foamed aggregate concrete [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper presents some experimental results and discusses the used of recycled foamed aggregates as natural coarse aggregates replacement in producing concrete. The physical properties of recycled foamed aggregates concrete were investigated.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
