Drying-Induced Strain and Stress: A Review
Drying Technology, 1996ABSTRACT This paper is to review the works on strains and suesses in materials during drying. The strains and suesses are caused when temperature and moisture gradients are generated in mterials whose volume changes with heating and moisture removal. In such materials. failure and irregular deformion may be generated which affect considerably the qudity

Freeze-drying various attenuated strains of Pasteurella pestis
Cryobiology, 1970Abstract A method is described for the preparation of freeze-dried living attenuated Pasteurella pestis organisms in a medium suitable for the development of a vaccine for human use. Viability recovery rates of 50% or greater were obtained with the attenuated strains of P.

Image Analysis of Strains in Soils Subjected to Wetting and Drying
Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2012Abstract A novel image based technique has been developed to measure strains of soil specimens subjected to wetting-drying by using vapor equilibrium with closed-loop ventilation. A digital SLR camera, fitted with a macro telephoto lens, and an advanced photo system type-C (APS-C) sensor have been used to take images of specimens during ...

Modelling of Stresses and Strains in a Piece of Wood Under Drying
Holzforschung, 1992The first part of the paper is devoted to the modelling of heat and moisture transport, using Whitaker's theory (1977) and a finite element formulation (2D profiles of temperature and moisture content are shown at different stages of the drying process).

Drying Technology, 2017
AbstractThe objective of this study was to separate drying strains into elastic, viscoelastic, and viscous strains using free shrinkage and recovery from the deformation of slices at stress relief. The apparent shrinkage deformation was obtained by measuring the change in width of drying specimens during drying.

Strain and crack distribution in concrete during drying
Materials and Structures, 2013Uneven shrinkage behavior between cement paste and rock aggregate takes place when concrete is subjected to drying. Possible consequences including internal damage and strain distribution need to be researched to understand the changes in concrete properties over time.

Stress and strain during supercritical drying
Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 2018Supercritical drying avoids capillary forces, but damaging stresses can be generated during solvent exchange, pressurization, and depressurization. Each of those steps has been analyzed, so the duration of the process can be minimized without risk to the sample.

Stress and strain in a plate subjected to intensive drying
Journal of Engineering Physics and Thermophysics, 1992The study was carried out to investigate the development of a stress-strain state in a thin porous plate subjected to intensive drying. A narrow evaporation zone (an evaporation front) divides the plate into two regions with different structures and rheological behavior.
