Development of a rapid screening protocol for selection of strains resistant to spray drying and storage in dry powder

Beneficial Microbes, 2010
An efficient screening method for selection of Bifidobacterium longum strains resistant to spray drying and storage was developed based on randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) for identification of the best survivors in mixed strains bacterial preparations. Three different primers were used to generate RAPD profiles of 22 B. longum strains.

Exposure to a dry environment induces strain-specific responses in mice

Experimental Eye Research, 2007
Most current animal models of dry eye have a single causative mechanism and do not take into consideration the influence of environmental conditions on tear secretion and associated ocular surface signs. Since immunity and inflammation have been implicated in dry eye pathogenesis, and different mouse strains are known to have differentially biased ...

The Influence of Drying Strategies on the Relationship between Drying Shrinkage and Strain to Failure of Paper

Trans. of the VIIth Fund. Res. Symp. Cambridge, 1981, 1981
The effects of different drying strategies on the development of the strain to failure of paper and its relationship with drying shrinkage is studied. It is postulated that the linear superposition principle can be applied to drying strategies. The general mathematical expressions to describe the strain to failure due to drying strategies are given ...

Permanent Strains in Clay-Like Material During Drying

Drying Technology, 2009
One of the characteristic features of clay-like materials is the change of their mechanical properties during drying as the moisture content is changed. At high moisture contents they are viscoelastic and then become elastic-plastic and finally brittle-elastic or even stiff.

Cyclic stress–strain behavior of the dry polycarbonate craze

Journal of Polymer Science Part A-2: Polymer Physics, 1969
AbstractEquipment and methods have been developed which allow photomicrographic determination of the stress–strain properties of the individual craze. Serial cyclic tensile tests on polycarbonate crazes are described. Under stress the typical dry polycarbonate craze thickens solely by straining; no adjacent polymer of normal density is converted to ...

Simple Sperm Preservation by Freeze-Drying for Conserving Animal Strains

2014
Freeze-drying spermatozoa is the ultimate method for the maintenance of animal strains, in that the gametes can be preserved for a long time in a refrigerator at 4 °C. Furthermore, it is possible to realize easy and safe transportation of spermatozoa at an ambient temperature that requires neither liquid nitrogen nor dry ice.
