Formulation optimisation for pilot-scale honey powder production: A response surface methodology and central composite design approach

open access: yesCzech Journal of Food Sciences
This research aimed to optimise a pilot-scale formulation for seamless scale-up, considering critical variables such as the honey-to-maltodextrin ratio, temperature, and drying time.

Prospects for optimizing the drying process of Virginia 202 tobacco leaves

open access: yesНовые технологии, 2021
Cultivation and use of Virginia 202 broadleaf skeletal variety for the production of smoking tobacco has broad prospects. Problems of post-harvest processing of large leaves with a massive midrib consist in high energy costs with an artificial drying ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Is walnut drying time affected by ethephon?

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1976
When the growth regulator ethephon is applied to walnuts at maturity and when packing tissue between kernel halves turns brown, hull dehiscence and nut loosening are advanced.

Stiffening while drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We present two models for the drying of waterborne paints, which consist of non-volatile latex particles suspended in water. One model considers the water and latex density in a layer as a function of time. Water evaporation at the surface represents the

Theoretical Study Of Intermittent Drying (tempering) In Prolate Spheroidal Bodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The process of intermittent drying in prolate spheroidal bodies was simulated assuming liquid diffusion to be the sole mass transport process, a constant diffusion coefficient and equilibrium conditions at the surface.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Evaluation of Infrared Radiation Combined with Hot Air Convection for Energy-Efficient Drying of Biomass

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
Cost-effective biomass drying is a key challenge for energy recovery from biomass by direct combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis. The aim of the present study was to optimize the process of biomass drying using hot air convection (HA), infrared (IR ...

Optimum operating conditions in drying foodstuffs with superheated steam [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
It is inferred from experimental data that in drying foodstuffs with superheated steam, the initial drying rate has a direct effect on the rate at which the overall drying takes place.

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This
