Chemical Cues for Host Location by the Chestnut Gall Wasp, Dryocosmus kuriphilus

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2010
Dryocosmus kuriphilus is one of the most damaging pests of Castanea spp. Behavioral, chemical, and electrophysiological investigations were employed to examine the role of plant volatiles for host location by this thelytokuos cynipid. Y-tube olfactometer bioassays showed that adult wasps are significantly attracted by C. sativa twigs with at least 1-hr-

First record of Dryocosmus kuriphilus in Greece

EPPO Bulletin, 2016
After the first introduction of chestnut gall wasp, Dryocosmus kuriphilus, in Italy, it has spread rapidly in several other European countries, probably largely due to trade in chestnut plants. Despite the measures taken to prevent further spread of this pest to other countries, D. kuriphilus was detected in Greece for the first time in 2014.

Native and introduced parasitoids in the biocontrol of Dryocosmus kuriphilus in Veneto (Italy)

EPPO Bulletin, 2016
The invasive gallmaker Dryocosmus kuriphilus is a threat to chestnut stands and it is necessary to control it in order to maintain a satisfactory nut yield. A preliminary evaluation of the native natural enemies emerging from the galls, mainly parasitoids associated with native cynipid gallmakers, revealed that they were not able to contain the pest ...

Chestnut tree damage evolution due to Dryocosmus kuriphilus attacks

Journal of Pest Science, 2019
Dryocosmus kuriphilus has become a major threat to Castanea sativa and chestnut cultivation in Europe since its discovery in Italy in 2002. Thankfully, the biological control agent Torymus sinensis has proven to effectively control and reduce the D. kuriphilus population. The reaction of chestnut trees to decreasing D. kuriphilus pressure, however, has
