Gnomoniopsis castaneae: An emerging plant pathogen and global threat to chestnut systems

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 72, Issue 2, Page 218-231, February 2023., 2023
The recent discovery of Gnomoniopsis castaneae in the United States brings a new urgency to the need to understand the full range and epidemiology and to examine potential methods of detection and mitigation. Abstract Gnomoniopsis castaneae is an important, destructive pathogen of Castanea species, initially identified as the primary agent of nut rot ...

ELECTROANTENNOGRAPHIC RESPONSES OF DRYOCOSMUS KURIPHILUS TO CASTANEA SATIVA LEAF VOLATILES [PDF]

open access: yesActa Horticulturae, 2009
Electroantennographic (EAG) responses from adults of the chestnut gall wasp, Dryocosmus kuriphilus were recorded on stimulation with a given dose of 22 volatile compounds previously identified from Castanea sativa leaves. All compounds elicited measurable EAGs.

Speciation in Nearctic oak gall wasps is frequently correlated with changes in host plant, host organ, or both

open access: yesEvolution, Volume 76, Issue 8, Page 1849-1867, August 2022., 2022
Abstract Quantifying the frequency of shifts to new host plants within diverse clades of specialist herbivorous insects is critically important to understand whether and how host shifts contribute to the origin of species. Oak gall wasps (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Cynipini) comprise a tribe of ∼1000 species of phytophagous insects that induce gall ...

Impact of ‘brown rot’ caused by Gnomoniopsis castanea on chestnut fruits during the post‐harvest process: critical phases and proposed solutions

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 102, Issue 2, Page 680-687, 30 January 2022., 2022
Abstract BACKGROUND The brown rot fungus, Gnomoniopsis castanea, is the main organism responsible for the outbreak of chestnut postharvest decay that is threatening the sustainability of the chestnut market in Europe. Currently, no specific strategy is available to mitigate the impact and remediate the high losses of fruits in postharvest storage.

The Paths of the Galls: Differences in the Ecology and Distribution of Two European Oak Gall Wasps Andricus dentimitratus and Andricus pictus

open access: yesJournal of Zoological Systematics and Evolutionary Research, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Andricus dentimitratus (Rejtõ, 1887) and Andricus pictus (Hartig, 1856) are two European gall wasps (Hymenoptera, Cynipidae) that induce galls on species of Quercus. The distribution and ecological niches of these species have not been studied in detail, though they are known to have a different distribution pattern in the Iberian Peninsula in Europe ...
