Summary. We discuss the problem of screening a general population for characteristics such as HIV or drug use. Our main approach is Bayesian, which allows for the incorporation of prior information about parameters. In the particular problem we consider, there is currently no information in the data for estimating the sensitivity of the screening test ...

ACM SIGGRAPH 2005 Papers, 2005
We present a novel photographic technique called dual photography, which exploits Helmholtz reciprocity to interchange the lights and cameras in a scene. With a video projector providing structured illumination, reciprocity permits us to generate pictures from the viewpoint of the projector, even though no camera was present at that location.

The paper gives a survey on the development of dual (or outer) billiards since the introduction of the notion by \textit{J. Moser} [Is the solar system stable? Math. Intell. 1, 65--71 (1978)]. The following topics are addressed: the area-preserving property, how to recover a billiard from an invariant curve, duality between inner and outer billiards ...

The study examined whether the simultaneous presentation of different map displays can aid situational awareness in spatial tasks relying on ego-centred and world-centred reference frames. Two commonly used aircraft displays, track-up and north-up maps, were compared with a dual aircraft display consisting of both track-up and north-up maps ...

Psychiatric Quarterly, 1993
Dual diagnosis in psychiatry and addiction refers to the presence of a substance use disorder coexisting with another major psychiatric disorder. This article reviews the prevalence and timing of occurrence of the various disorders and their combinations.

Inspired by the feedback scenario, which characterizes online social networks, we introduce a novel domination problem, which we call Dual Domination (DD). We assume that the nodes in the input network are partitioned into two categories: Positive nodes (V+) and negative nodes (V-).

Applied Categorical Structures, 2009
The review partly uses the authors' abstract. As the authors notice, monoidal objects (pseudomonoids) in monoidal bicategories share many properties with monoidal categories. The existence of (left or right) duals in monoidal categories permits to define dualization operations; a related definition was suggested for monoidal objects by \textit{B.

Genetic inheritance in higher organisms normally refers to the transmission of information from one generation to the next. Nevertheless, there is also inheritance in somatic cells, characterised by the phenotypic stability of differentiated cells that divide (such as fibroblasts and lymphocytes), and also mitosis of stem line cells, which gives rise ...

Multilayer Dual-Mode Dual-Bandpass Filter
IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2009A dual-mode dual-bandpass filter for the U-NII bands is proposed and demonstrated. Its effective size reduction is achieved by using a multilayer configuration. The first and the third layers incorporate microstrip dual-mode bandpass filters with operating center-frequencies of f1 =5.2 GHz and f2 =5.8 GHz, respectively.
