Effect of Structured Training on ICU Nurses' Knowledge‐Based Competence in Ventilator‐Associated Pneumonia Prevention in a Resource‐Limited Setting: An Explanatory Sequential Mixed‐Methods Study

open access: yesNursing Open, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the effect of a structured training intervention on ICU nurses' knowledge‐based competence in VAP prevention in a resource‐limited setting and identify personal, environmental and organisational barriers to implementation. Design An explanatory sequential mixed‐methods design was employed, integrating a single‐group quasi ...

Addressing false negatives and positives in eDNA studies

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 17, Issue 7, Page 1977-2008, July 2026.
Abstract Environmental DNA (eDNA) has revolutionized the study of ecology and biodiversity, enabling species detection without direct observation in the environment. However, the implications of detection errors, specifically false positives and false negatives, are poorly reported in eDNA studies, significantly hindering our understanding of the ...

Rapid generation of prion disease models using AAV‐delivered PrP variants in knockout mice

open access: yesBrain Pathology, Volume 36, Issue 4, July 2026.
We developed a rapid AAV‐based system to generate prion disease models in weeks rather than months. Following systemic AAV9P31 delivery of modified PrP to knockout mice, we achieved brain‐wide expression and successful propagation of both classical (RML) and atypical (GSS‐A117V) prion strains.

Therapeutic potential of small molecules that block receptor‐induced Kv7/M‐current suppression in neuroprotection, seizures, and pain

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 13, Page 3780-3795, July 2026.
Receptor‐induced Kv7/M‐current suppression increases neuronal activity and contributes to pathology of several conditions. A new class of Kv7 modulators identified in this study attenuates M‐current suppression and shows therapeutic effects. Abstract Background and Purpose Neuronal Kv7 channels generate low voltage–gated potassium currents known as the
