Monopole Condensation in Gauge Theory Vacuum [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
The condensation of monopoles (dual superconductivity) of QCD vacuum is reviewed. Direct evidence is produced that the system, in the confined phase, is a dual superconductor.Comment: 8 pages, latex, 4 ps figures uuencoded, Invited talk at the Int ...

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Effects of Ca Substitution in Single-Phase Sr1-xCaxTi0.8Fe0.2O3-ẟ Oxygen Transport Membranes and in Dual-Phase Sr1-xCaxTi0.8Fe0.2O3-ẟ-Ce0.8Gd0.2O2 Membranes

open access: yesMembranes
Oxygen transport membranes (OTMs) have gained a lot of attention for their application in different innovative fields, but the development of new materials able to combine high oxygen permeability and good chemical stability is crucial to boost the ...

Single Flux Transistor: the controllable interplay of Coherent Quantum Phase Slip and Flux quantization

open access: yes, 2013
The Single Cooper Pair Josephson Transistor is a device that exhibits at the same time charge quantization and phase coherence. Coherent quantum phase slip phenomenon is "dual" the Josephson phase coherence while the charge quantization is dual to the ...

Direct torque control for dual three-phase induction motor drives [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A direct torque control (DTC) strategy for dual three-phase induction motor drives is discussed in this paper. The induction machine has two sets of stator three-phase windings spatially shifted by 30 electrical degrees.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Is Confinement a Phase of Broken Dual Gauge Symmetry?

open access: yes, 2008
We study whether broken dual gauge symmetry, as detected by a monopole order parameter introduced by the Pisa group, is necessarily associated with the confinement phase of a lattice gauge theory. We find a number of examples, including SU(2) gauge-Higgs

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Comparison of MDCT protocols in trauma patients with suspected splenic injury: superior results with protocol that includes arterial and portal venous phase imaging

open access: yesDiagnostic and Interventional Radiology, 2016
PURPOSE:We aimed to determine which intravenous contrast-enhanced multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) protocol produced the most accurate results for the detection of splenic vascular injury in hemodynamically stable patients who had sustained blunt

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.
