Decision science: from Ramsey to dual process theories [PDF]

open access: yesSynthese, 2009
The hypothesis that human reasoning and decision-making can be roughly modeled by Expected Utility Theory has been at the core of decision science. Accumulating evidence has led researchers to modify the hypothesis. One of the latest additions to the field is Dual Process theory, which attempts to explain variance between participants and tasks when it

On using shadow prices in portfolio optimization with transaction costs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In frictionless markets, utility maximization problems are typically solved either by stochastic control or by martingale methods. Beginning with the seminal paper of Davis and Norman [Math. Oper. Res.

Dual processing theory and expertsʼ reasoning: exploring thinking on national multiple-choice questions

open access: yesPerspectives on Medical Education, 2015
Background An ongoing debate exists in the medical education literature regarding the potential benefits of pattern recognition (non-analytic reasoning), actively comparing and contrasting diagnostic options (analytic reasoning) or using a combination ...

When Type 2 Processing Misfires: The Indiscriminate Use of Statistical Thinking about Reasoning Problems

open access: yesJournal of Intelligence, 2022
Research on dual-process theories of judgment makes abundant use of reasoning problems that present a conflict between Type 1 intuitive responses and Type 2 rule-based responses.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Mindfulness as a Buffer of Leaders’ Self-Rated Behavioral Responses to Emotional Exhaustion: A Dual Process Model of Self-Regulation

open access: yesFrontiers in Psychology, 2018
In this study, we investigate the self-regulatory role of mindfulness in buffering the relationship between leaders’ emotional exhaustion and self-rated leadership behavior (transformational leadership and abusive supervision).

An approach to anomalies in M-theory via KSpin

open access: yes, 2007
The M-theory fieldstrength and its dual, given by the integral lift of the left hand side of the equation of motion, both satisfy certain cohomological properties.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

The Dual Process Theory of Autism: A Narrative Review

open access: yesPsikiyatride Güncel Yaklaşımlar
The Dual Process Theory in Autism is a contemporary approach used to explain the cognitive processing styles of autistic individuals. The theory proposes that individuals rely on two distinct modes of processing: intuitive (Type I; fast and automatic ...

Sequential deconfinement in 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 gauge theories

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2021
We consider 3d N $$ \mathcal{N} $$ = 2 gauge theories with fundamental matter plus a single field in a rank-2 representation. Using iteratively a process of “deconfinement” of the rank-2 field, we produce a sequence of Seiberg-dual quiver theories.
