Austenitization of FerriticDuctile Iron
Austenitization is the first step of heat treatment preceding the isothermal quenching of ductile iron in austempered ductile iron (ADI) manufacturing. Usually, the starting material for the ADI production is ductile iron with more convenient pearlitic ...

As cast high silicon ductile irons with optimised mechanical properties and remarkable fatigue properties [PDF]
The present work shows a comparative study regarding the mechanical properties of 25 as cast ferritic ductile iron alloys, nine of them with silicon contents higher than 3·00% and carbon contents lower than 3·60%.

The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...

Degenerated Graphite Growth in Ductile Iron [PDF]
As part of a study devoted to the effect of trace elements on graphite degeneracy, near-eutectic ductile iron melts were prepared to which minute amounts of lead and of both lead and cerium were added. The melts were cast into an insulated Y4 mould, giving a solidification time of about 1 hour and a cooling time to room temperature of about 15 hours ...

Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Development of ductile iron alloy for ADI production using heated air in austempering [PDF]
Ductile iron is typically used in as-cast conditions. However, a typical heat treatment applied to ductile iron is austempering, which allows for increased tensile strength with good levels of elongation and toughness.

Microstructure Evolution of a VMnFeCoNi High‐Entropy Alloy After Synthesis, Swaging, and Annealing
The synthesis and processing (rotary swaging and annealing) of the novel VMnFeCoNi alloy is investigated, alongside the estimation of the grain size effect on hardness. Analysis of a wide grain size range of recrystallized microstructures (12–210 µm) reveals a low annealing twin density.

Heat Treatment of S.G Cast Iron [PDF]
S.G Cast iron is defined as a high carbon containing, iron based alloy in which the graphite is present in compact, spherical shapes rather than in the shape of flakes, the latter being typical of gray cast iron .

Microstructural optimization of unalloyed ductile cast irons with a ferritic matrix used in the manufacture of wind turbine rotors [PDF]
The aim of this work was the microstructural optimization of cast irons with nodular graphite for the manufacture of wind turbine hubs, paying preferential attention to the geometry and distribution of graphite spheroids to ensure the required mechanical
