This chapter summarizes the scientific and technical knowledge for durum wheat breeding, giving some examples of the methods applied in national programs. Section 1 refers to the importance of durum wheat in the world. Sections 2 and 3 give technical details on genetic diversity and the choice of germplasm, while the main varietal groups are explained ...

The durum wheat reference genome (cv. Svevo) assembly has become an essential tool to study durum wheat evolution and breeding, as well as for acquiring new knowledge on gene and genome function and organization. The modern durum wheat cultivars and its progenitor, the wild emmer, are separated by about 10,000 years of domestication and subsequent ...

Characterization of a mitotic mutant of durum wheat
Chromosome Research, 2001An ethyl methanesulfonate-induced mitotic mutant of durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. var. durum; 2n = 4x = 28) was found. We have characterized the mutant to determine the mechanism of abnormal cell division and to test for temperature effects on abnormal cell division.
