Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

High-resolution ALMA Study of CO J = 2–1 Line and Dust Continuum Emissions in Cluster Galaxies at z = 1.46

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2022
Abstract We present new Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) results obtained from spatially resolved CO J = 2–1 line (0.″4 resolution) and 870 μm continuum (0.″2 resolution) observations of cluster galaxies in XMMXCS J2215.9-1738 at z = 1.46. Our sample comprises 17 galaxies within ∼0.5 Mpc (0.6R 200) of

PAH emission from the dust lane of an elliptical galaxy with the Spitzer IRS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Spitzer and AKARI observations have found that polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are present in nearby elliptical galaxies, but their spatial distributions are still unknown.

A NOEMA pilot survey of [C II] line emission in luminous galaxies at z  ≈  6

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
We present Northern Extended Millimeter Array (NOEMA) observations of four luminous galaxies at z ∼ 6, when the Universe was less than ∼1 Gyr old. These galaxies are detected in the [C II] 158 μm fine-structure line, and three also exhibit underlying ...

Composites of Shellac and Silver Nanowires as Flexible, Biobased, and Corrosion‐Resistant Transparent Conductive Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Shellac, a centuries‐old natural resin, is reimagined as a green material for flexible electronics. When combined with silver nanowires, shellac films deliver transparency, conductivity, and stability against humidity. These results position shellac as a sustainable alternative to synthetic polymers for transparent conductors in next‐generation ...

Mid-infrared interferometry on spectral lines: II. Continuum (dust) emission around IRC+10216 and VY CMa

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2000
The U. C. Berkeley Infrared Spatial Interferometer has measured the mid-infrared visibilities of the carbon star IRC+10216 and the red supergiant VY CMa. The dust shells around these sources have been previously shown to be time-variable, and these new data are used to probe the evolution of the dust shells on a decade time-scale, complementing ...

Observations of a high-mass protostar in NGC 7538S

open access: yes, 2012
We present high angular resolution continuum observations of the high-mass protostar NGC 7538S with BIMA and CARMA at 3 and 1.4 mm, VLA observations at 1.3, 2, 3.5 and 6 cm, and archive IRAC observations from the Spitzer Space Observatory, which detect ...

Spatially Resolved Spectroscopy of Sub-AU-Sized Regions of T Tauri and Herbig Ae/Be Disks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We present spatially resolved near-IR spectroscopic observations of 15 young stars. Using a grism spectrometer behind the Keck Interferometer, we obtained an angular resolution of a few milli-arcseconds and a spectral resolution of 230, enabling probes ...

Through Diamond Robust Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Thin film diamond growth offers a unique opportunity for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS); the encapsulation of plasmonic nanostructures within a transparent, chemically stable, and physically robust coating. The diamond acts as both a window and protective layer, enabling illumination of the plasmonic nanostructures through the diamond ...
