Dust Control in Rock Drilling [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health and the Nations Health, 1940
THE importance of silicosis as an occupational disease has been demonstrated in many industries. Such investigations have shown rock drilling in hard-rock mining and other drilling operations to be hazardous, even including open drilling in quarries, road construction, and building excavation.

Prediction of heterogeneous nucleation condensation effect on the surface of respiratory coal dust and test of dust reduction test

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
Surface wettability of coal dust particles is an important factor restricting the efficiency of wet dust removal. Heterogeneous nucleation condensation on the surface of coal dust particles is a means without any pollution, without considering the ...

Characterization of explosion propagation of coal dust deposited by gas explosion convolutions in closed pipelines

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
To explore the propagation characteristics of gas explosion-induced coal dust detonations in enclosed pipelines, a custom-developed experimental system was employed for gas explosions involving accumulated coal dust.

Effectiveness of Protein and Polysaccharide Biopolymers as Dust Suppressants on Mine Soils: Results from Wind Tunnel and Penetrometer Testing

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
For the dust control of barren mine soils, protein and polysaccharide biopolymers have recently shown potential as environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional dust suppressants (e.g., salt brines or petroleum-based products).

Efficient ortho-para conversion of H2 on interstellar grain surfaces

open access: yes, 2016
Context: Fast surface conversion between ortho- and para-H2 has been observed in laboratory studies, and this mechanism has been proposed to play a role in the control of the ortho-para ratio in the interstellar medium.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Tunnel lining studies II [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
In the CRREL tunnel (Fig. B1, B2), sublimation is extremely apparent, but because of the tunnels limited usage it poses no significant problems. However, in an operating mine with forced air ventilation and continuously operating machinery, the problems ...

Dust emission in powder handling: Free falling particle plume characterisation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Dust generation during solids handling, principally from the free falling of bulk materials and their impact on stockpiles, can be a health threat for operators and a cause of dust explosions.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Guidelines for the Use of Synthetic Fluid Dust Control Palliatives on Unpaved Roads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The amount of small soil particles, dust, lost from typical unpaved roads to fugitive dust is staggering. A 1 km stretch of unpaved road can contribute over 2400 kg of dust to the atmosphere (4.2 ton/mile) in a typical 3-month summer season.
