Electrochemical and Spectrophotometric Characterization of the Propolis Antioxidants Properties

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2019
In this work, ethanol extracts of propolis from Europe, before and after 10 years of storage, were prepared and investigated by electrochemical methods, FTIR, and UV-Vis spectrometry assays.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

The triple challenges associated with age-related comorbidities in Down syndrome [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background Major increases in the survival of people with Down syndrome during the last two generations have resulted in extended periods of adulthood requiring specialist care, which in turn necessitates greater understanding of the nature, timing and ...

Exploiting metabolic adaptations to overcome dabrafenib treatment resistance in melanoma cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that dabrafenib‐resistant melanoma cells undergo mitochondrial remodeling, leading to elevated respiration and ROS production balanced by stronger antioxidant defenses. This altered redox state promotes survival despite mitochondrial damage but renders resistant cells highly vulnerable to ROS‐inducing compounds such as PEITC, highlighting redox

Test strips detect different CO2 concentrations in closed compartments [PDF]

open access: yes, 1965
Four different test strips, using crystal violet for one pair of strips and basic fuchsin as a dye for the second pair, give unambiguous colorimetric indications of four different concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere of a closed compartment.

LINC01116, a hypoxia‐lncRNA marker of pathological lymphangiogenesis and poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LINC01116 long noncoding RNA is induced by hypoxia and associated with poor prognosis and high recurrence rates in two cohorts of lung adenocarcinoma patients. Here, we demonstrate that besides its expression in cancer cells, LINC01116 is markedly expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells of the tumor stroma in which it participates in hypoxia ...

Application of β-carotene, a Natural Flavonoid Dye, to Polymeric Materials as a Natural Antioxidant and Determination of Its Characteristics Using Cyclic Voltammetry and FTIR Spectroscopy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2015
The electrochemical oxidation of β-carotene was investigated at a Pt electrode using CV and DPV voltammetry methods. The electrooxidation of β-carotene is a diffusion-controlled, irreversible reaction.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Antioxidant properties of rose extract (Rosa villosa L.) measured using electrochemical and UV/Vis spectrophotometric methods

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2017
The purpose of our study was to analyse the composition and antioxidant properties of phytocompounds in a rose extract (Rosa villosa L.). Spectroscopic and electrochemical methods were used to achieve this goal. UV-Vis and FTIR spectra helped to identify

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve
