In Chap. 3, positioning control in the horizontal plane is investigated for the installation of subsea systems, with thrusters attached, under time-varying irrotational ocean current, when the payload is near to the seabed. Backstepping, in combination with adaptive feedback approximation techniques, is employed in the design of the control, with the ...

Dynamic mooring-forces allocation in dynamic ship positioning
Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications, 1989The design of a dynamic positioning system for a multiply-moored vessel with active winches and thrusters is presented. The proposed positioning system is based on Kalman filter and linear optimal control. Its peculiarity is that it contains a scheme which allocates dynamically the control forces between moorings and thrusters.

ABSTRACT Dynamic positioning systems provide a highly versatile "anchoring" system for vessels that must remain on a given location out in the deep ocean. While no single system design can be universally used, general guidelines can be established to assist in the selection and the design of the various subsystems.

Positive controllability of positive dynamical systems
Proceedings of the 2002 American Control Conference (IEEE Cat. No.CH37301), 2002The paper is devoted to a study of constrained controllability and controllability for linear dynamical systems if the controls are taken to be nonnegative. In analogy to the usual definition of controllability it is possible to introduce the concept of positive controllability. We concentrate on approximate positive controllability for linear infinite-

Inertially-Aided Dynamic Positioning
Offshore Technology Conference, 1975ABSTRACT Integration of a commercial inertial navigation unit into a dynamic positioning control loop for offshore drilling rigs will provide improved operation and a self-contained backup in the event of signal loss from the primary acoustic or taut wire systems.

Dynamic Positioning System Evaluation
Offshore Technology Conference, 1992ABSTRACT Evaluation of dynamic positioning systems consists principally of determining the holding capability against expected weather and the reliability of the DP system in operation. Efforts to quantify reliability, by estimating mean time between failure, now permit several useful risk analysis evaluations.

Swarm Dynamics and Positive Dynamical Systems
2013In this paper we model swarm dynamics by a nonautonomous linear system with row-stochastic matrices. It is shown that all birds approach the same velocity if their local interaction has the property that its intensity decays not too fast and its structure becomes not too loose. This mirrors in particular specific flight regimes.
