Dynamic reconfiguration of distributed programs
[1991] Proceedings. 11th International Conference on Distributed Computing Systems, 2002A general framework is developed for reconfiguring applications dynamically, where developers may alter the application without loss of service. After presenting the overall framework within which reconfiguration is possible, a description is given of the formal approach for programmers to capture the state of a process abstractly.

The Dynamically Reconfigurable Assembly System
1992Abstract An essential element of World Class Manufacturing is the existence of small, focused factories in which a variety of products can be made. Unfortunately, classical approaches to assembly automation result in systems which are difficult to reconfigure; i.e., to reprogram, refixture and retool.

General strategies for dynamic reconfiguration
ACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes, 2000In recent years there has been a great deal of attention in the software engineering community on the development of techniques and tools that provide support for dynamic reconfiguration, the ability to make changes to a running application.
