Strain Rate Behaviour of Three Rocks in Tension

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 2014
The paper presents the dynamic characterization in tension of three rocks under medium and high strain-rates. The tests have been carried out by means of the JRC-Split Hopkinson Tension Bar and an Hydro-Pneumatic Machine, installed in the DynaMat ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Effect of Contact Time and Gas Component on Interfacial Tension of CO2/Crude Oil System by Pendant Drop Method

open access: yesJournal of Spectroscopy, 2015
Pendant drop method has been used to measure the equilibrium interfacial tension and dynamic interfacial tension of CO2/crude oil system under the simulated-formation condition, in which the temperature is 355.65 K and pressure ranges from 0 MPa to 30 ...

Estimating the sensitivity of mechanosensitive ion channels to membrane strain and tension [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Bone adapts to its environment by a process in which osteoblasts and osteocytes sense applied mechanical strain. One possible pathway for the detection of strain involves mechanosensitive channels and we sought to determine their sensitivity to membrane ...

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Dynamic tension of aluminum alloy AMg-6 in a facility of Split Hopkinson Bar

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2018
The results are presented to create a facility for studying dynamic tension of structural materials by using the Split Hopkinson Bar Method (SHB method). The explosive method of loading and a cylindrical corner-rounding sample are used in a facility.
