Approach to the diagnosis and management of dysbiosis

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
All microorganisms like bacteria, viruses and fungi that reside within a host environment are considered a microbiome. The number of bacteria almost equal that of human cells, however, the genome of these bacteria may be almost 100 times larger than the ...

Mammary Dysbiosis [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Lactation, 2018
Mastitis can be an unwelcome and debilitating visitor to breastfeeding mothers. The mammary gland has its own microbiome that can be affected by reduced polymorphonuclear neutrophil recruitment during the first 3 months postpartum, as well as the receipt of antibiotics during the last trimester of pregnancy.

Multi‐Enzyme Mimetic Molybdenum Nitride Nanozymes Reshape Subgingival Microenvironment for Synergistic Periodontitis Therapy via ROS Regulation and Microbiome Remodeling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Periodontitis, a chronic inflammatory disease initiated and sustained by plaque microorganisms and host immune response, remains an intractable oral disease and a leading cause of tooth loss worldwide. Traditional mechanical debridement and adjunctive antibiotic or antiseptic therapy often shows limited efficacy due to the complex anatomical ...

Multi-modal Single-Cell Analysis Reveals Brain Immune Landscape Plasticity during Aging and Gut Microbiota Dysbiosis

open access: yesCell Reports, 2020
Summary: Phenotypic and functional plasticity of brain immune cells contribute to brain tissue homeostasis and disease. Immune cell plasticity is profoundly influenced by tissue microenvironment cues and systemic factors.

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Dysbiosis: from fiction to function [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, 2019
Advances in data collection technologies reveal that an imbalance (dysbiosis) in the composition of host-associated microbial communities (microbiota) is linked to many human illnesses. This association makes dysbiosis a central concept for understanding how the human microbiota contributes to health and disease.

Oral Bioinspired Peroxisome‐Engineered Probiotics for Modulating Gut Microbiota Homeostasis and Alleviating Cardiac Chemotherapy Toxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study developed an oral bioinspired peroxisome‐engineered probiotic (BPEP) by anchoring lipid‐encapsulated ruthenium nanozymes onto Escherichia coli Nissle 1917, utilizing probiotics to deliver nanozymes to the intestinal barrier for reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species elimination, tight junction restoration, and gut microbiota ...

Cystic Fibrosis-Related Gut Dysbiosis: A Systematic Review

open access: yes, 2023
Background and Aims Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is associated with gut dysbiosis, local and systemic inflammation, and impaired immune function. Gut microbiota dysbiosis results from changes in the complex gut milieu in response to CF transmembrane ...
