Mobile genetic elements causing plasticity in E. faecium

Essential oils show multifunctional activity against multidrug‐resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa by targeting bacterial membranes, quorum sensing, biofilm formation, virulence traits, and antibiotic susceptibility. Their translational potential depends on standardized composition, optimized delivery systems, safety assessment, and clinical validation ...

Human Gut Phageome Analysis Uncovers Thousands of Highly Modular Endolysins
Analysis of 9141 human gut metagenomes identified 15,267 phage genomes and 3794 highly modular endolysins. The recovered endolysins showed remarkable catalytic and cell wall–binding domain diversity, highlighting the gut phageome as a rich source of novel enzybiotics with therapeutic potential against multidrug‐resistant bacteria.

A patient with an acute exacerbation of interstitial lung disease developed a myocardial infarction, a pulmonary embolism and a fatal intestinal perforation after veno‐venous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation and continuous haemodiafiltration. This autopsy case highlights the difficulty of balancing thrombosis and bleeding and the need for early ...

Functional genomics of Enterococcus faecium: antibiotic resistance and niche adaptation
The Gram-positive bacterium Enterococcus faecium has long been perceived as a harmlessmember of the mammalian gut microbiota. However, in the past two decades it has rapidly emerged as one of the leading causes of multidrug resistant hospital acquired ...

Microbial biostimulant application increased germination, growth and nutrient availability in ornamental kale grown in both peat‐based and peat‐free substrates. Improvements in phosphorus and potassium availability and reduced bulk density in peat‐free media highlight the potential of microbial biostimulants to enhance plant establishment and support ...
