A Sustained Hospital Outbreak of Vancomycin‐ResistantEnterococcus faeciumBacteremia due to Emergence ofvanB E. faeciumSequence Type 203 [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2010
A significant increase in the rate of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREfm) bacteremia at our health service, despite improved infection control, prompted us to investigate the cause.E. faecium bacteremia (including VREfm) over a 12-year period (1998-2009) was investigated using multilocus sequence typing, antibiotic and antiseptic ...

Gut Health in Ostriches (Struthio camelus): Insights Into Intestinal Structure, Functions, Microbiome, and Improvement Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Our paper systematically reviews the intestinal structure, function, and microbiota of ostriches, along with strategies for improving their gut health. We analyze how these factors collectively influence intestinal homeostasis and ostrich welfare, emphasizing probiotics as a promising intervention to enhance gut health, boost population well‐being, and

Inhibitory Effect of Enterococcus faecium WB2000 on Volatile Sulfur Compound Production by Porphyromonas gingivalis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dentistry, 2016
Volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs) produced by oral anaerobes are the major compounds responsible for oral malodor. Enterococcus faecium WB2000 is recognized as an antiplaque probiotic bacterium. In this study, the effect of E.

Antimicrobial activity of Enterococcus faecium FAIR-E 198 against gram-positive pathogens [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Microbiology, 2010
This study investigated the antimicrobial activity of Enterococcus faecium FAIR-E 198 against Bacillus cereus, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus. Using the critical-dilution method, the bacteriocin produced by E. faecium FAIR-E 198 inhibited all L. monocytogenes strains evaluated (1,600 to 19,200 AU mL(-1)).

Fungal Antimicrobial Resistance: Mechanisms, Drivers, and Global Clinical Burden

open access: yesChemFoodChem, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fungal antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing concern for world health caused by an increase in multidrug‐resistant infections, an increase in environmental reservoirs, and the ineffectiveness of current antifungal treatments. Fungal infections continue to be largely excluded from AMR initiatives while causing over 1.6 million deaths ...

Pretreatment with probiotic Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 11181 ameliorates necrotic enteritis-induced intestinal barrier injury in broiler chickens

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
The dysfunction of tight-junction integrity caused by necrotic enteritis (NE) is associated with decreased nutrient absorption and gut injury in broiler chickens. Although probiotic Enterococcus faecium (E.

The gut microbiome and drug‐resistant epilepsy: Microbiome–antiseizure medication interactions and implications for pharmacoresistance

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Drug‐resistant epilepsy (DRE) affects approximately one‐third of patients with epilepsy and represents a major unmet clinical need. While traditional hypotheses of pharmacoresistance have focused on alterations in drug targets, efflux transporter overexpression, and intrinsic disease severity, the gut microbiome has recently emerged as a ...

Mining Oral Probiotics Based on Their Pathogen Inhibition and Deodorization Roles

open access: yesFood Bioengineering, EarlyView.
A promising oral probiotic strain Streptococcus salivarius MY‐6 stood out from 41 candidate lactic acid bacteria through the high‐throughput strategy based on its inhibitions of the growth and biofilm formation of the main oral pathogens Fusobacterium nucleatum and Porphyromonas gingivalis, as well as its elimination of oral malodor‐associated ...
