QBP1 Peptide as a Potential Anti‐Amyloidogenic Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes: An In Vitro Study

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The anti‐amyloidogenic peptide QBP1 effectively halts human islet amyloid polypeptide (hIAPP) aggregation, preventing the formation of toxic β‐structured intermediates. Through a combination of biophysical assays, molecular dynamics, and cell‐based studies, QBP1 is shown to preserve β‐cell viability and metabolic homeostasis, positioning it as a ...

Unbalanced proportions of E1-226V and E1-226A provided in blood-meals to Ae. aegypti (AAPT) and Ae. albopictus (ALPROV). Ae. aegypti and Ae. albopictus were given an infectious blood-meal containing unbalanced proportions of two clones E1-A and E1-V isolated from the strains E1-226A and E1-226V, respectively.

open access: yes, 2013
Two mixes were tested: one containing 1∶9 (E1-A:E1-V) and one containing a mix of 9∶1 (E1-A:E1-V). At day 7 post-infection, dissemination (A) and transmission (B) were examined by estimating the proportion of E1-V in wings and saliva, respectively, of ...

ERK‐Mediated Phosphorylation of YAP Defines a Noncanonical FGF Signaling Mechanism in Stem Cells

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
With a powerful combination of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro models, the authors highlight a novel FGF‐ERK signaling regulation of YAP at the S128 site in neural crest‐derived stem cells. This study opens exciting new directions in stem cell biology and craniofacial biology, paving the way for potential innovations in the treatment of craniofacial ...

A Rare Allele of ST5 From Wild Rice Enhances Salt Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A novel salt‐tolerance gene ST5W, characterized by a unique 36‐bp promoter insertion, is found exclusively in a small subset of Oryza rufipogon and is absent in cultivated rice. Field trials confirm ST5W significantly enhances rice yield across diverse genetic backgrounds under saline conditions.

Cryo‐EM Structure Guided Engineering of Botulinum Neurotoxin A With Advanced Receptor Binding Affinity and Therapeutical Benefits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The butterfly unfolded wing in an open form structure of botulinum neurotoxin type A (BoNT/A) at physiological‐state was confirmed at 2.85 Å resolution by cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM). Structure‐guided protein engineering significantly enhanced the receptor‐binding affinity, therapeutic efficacy, and safety of the engineered toxin variants ...

Social deprivation and severe cervicofacial abscess: A retrospective review of patients presenting to a tertiary oral and maxillofacial surgery unit

open access: yesAdvances in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Background: Severe cervicofacial abscesses require emergency incision and drainage under general anaesthetic to avoid life-threatening sequelae. There is a well-described association between dental disease and socioeconomic status (SES), and most ...
