Development of an artificial diet for mass rearing of the spiny bollworm,Earias insulana
Phytoparasitica, 1981An artificial diet for rearing the spiny bollworm,Earias insulana (Boisd.), was developed in experiments with three successive generations. The present recommended diet is based on kidney beans, alfalfa meal, whole powdered milk and yeast; methyl-P-hydroxy benzoate, chloramphenicol and formaldehyde were included as preservatives.

MATING, OVIPOSITION AND GAMMA STERILIZATION OF THE SPOTTED BOLLWORM OF COTTON, EARIAS INSULANA
Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 1973Mating, oviposition and gamma sterilization of the spotted bollworm of cotton, Earias insulana Boisd., were studied under laboratory conditions. The larvae when reared on natural diet produced adults in the sex ratio of about 1:1. The females generally mated once and the duration of mating ranged from 35—345 minutes.

Control of the Spiny Bollworm [Earias insulana [Boisd.]) in Cyprus
EPPO Bulletin, 1978AbstractDamage caused by larvae of Earias insulana Boisd. is of great economic importance to growers of okra (Hibiscus esculentus) in the areas of Kiti‐Perivolia, on the south‐east coast of Cyprus, near Larnaca. In order to minimize the damage caused by larvae feeding on okra fruits, several organophosphorous and organo‐carbamate insecticides with ...

Color mutations in a laboratory colony of the spiny bollworm(Earias Insulana)
Phytoparasitica, 1988A description is given of two color mutations ofEarias insulana Boisd. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) adults. These mutants were compared with adults of a standard laboratory colony. The basis for comparison was the color chart of the Royal Horticultural Society of London (RHS) and a Japanese color chart (JCC).

Effect of methiotepa on the reproduction of the spiny bollworm, Earias insulana (Boisd.)
Zeitschrift für Angewandte Entomologie, 1973AbstractThe third larval instar of the spiny bollworm, Earias insulana (Boisd.) were fed on okra pods immersed in different concentrations (0.125, 0.250, 0.500 and 1.0%) of methiotepa. The mortality percentage of the larvae increased by the increase of dose of methiotepa as well as the progression time.

Abstract Three benzoylphenyl ureas (BPUs) were compared for their relative toxicity against different life stages of the spiny bollworm (SBW), Earias insulana (Boisd.). Results showed that the LC50 values of chlorfluazuron, teflubenzuron and hexaflumuron ingested by neonate larvae of the spiny bollworm, were 0.01, 0.05 and 0.25 p.p.m.
