Discovery and Description of Ebola Zaire Virus in 1976 and Relevance to the West African Epidemic During 2013-2016. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BACKGROUND: In 1976, the first cases of Ebola virus disease in northern Democratic Republic of the Congo (then referred to as Zaire) were reported. This article addresses who was responsible for recognizing the disease; recovering, identifying, and ...

Identification of TPRA1 as a Novel Receptor and Predictive Biomarker for Oncolytic Virus M1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 48, December 29, 2025.
This study identifies transmembrane protein adipocyte‐associated 1 (TPRA1) as a novel receptor for oncolytic virus M1 (OVM). TPRA1's ectodomain binds OVM particles, while its intracellular domain facilitates virus internalization, promoting efficient viral entry.

Role of healthcare workers in early epidemic spread of Ebola: policy implications of prophylactic compared to reactive vaccination policy in outbreak prevention and control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Ebola causes severe illness in humans and has epidemic potential. How to deploy vaccines most effectively is a central policy question since different strategies have implications for ideal vaccine profile. More than one vaccine may be needed.

Research progress Ebola Hemorrhagic Fever vaccine

open access: yesJournal of Applied Virology, 2015
<p>Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a potent infectious disease by Ebola virus caused 90% mortality rate. Ebola virus was first isolated in 1976 by, for single-stranded negative segment, non-segmented, enveloped RNA viruses belonging to filamentous virus family. Ebola virus can be divided into five different subtypes.

Post-Ebola Measles Outbreak in Lola, Guinea, January–June 2015

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2016
During public health crises such as the recent outbreaks of Ebola virus disease in West Africa, breakdowns in public health systems can lead to epidemics of vaccine-preventable diseases. We report here on an outbreak of measles in the prefecture of Lola,

Biomarker Correlates of Survival in Pediatric Patients with Ebola Virus Disease

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2014
Outbreaks of Ebola virus disease (EVD) occur sporadically in Africa and are associated with high case-fatality rates. Historically, children have been less affected than adults.
