[Ectopic calcification in Klotho mice].
Clinical calcium, 2005We recently developed a unique short lifespan mouse strain in which a single gene mutation caused multiple aging-related disorders and identified the responsible gene as klotho. The most characteristic phenotypes seem to be caused by abnormalities in calcium metabolism.

[Ectopic calcification in dialysis patients].
Clinical calcium, 2005Vascular calcification is the most important type of the ectopic calcinosis in dialysis patients. Hyperphosphatemia is an independent risk factor for the vascular calcification. A sodium-dependent phosphate co-transporter is associated with an increase in the intracellular phosphate concentration in vascular cells.
