AbstractRecently, several papers have appeared in the CFD literature, proposing an idealized instability problem as a benchmark for discriminating among numerical algorithms for two‐dimensional Navier–Stokes flows. The problem is a double shear layer simulated at coarse resolution and with a prescribed interface perturbation.

In large federated and shared-nothing databases, resources can exhibit widely fluctuating characteristics. Assumptions made at the time a query is submitted will rarely hold throughout the duration of query processing. As a result, traditional static query optimization and execution techniques are ineffective in these environments.

On the eddy‐Kuroshio interaction: Evolution of the mesoscale eddy
Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 2002Presented are results from a numerical study of the interaction of a mesoscale eddy and the Kuroshio using a high‐resolution regional general circulation model (GCM). The distinct evolution of the mesoscale eddies is not new in the literature, but most of the previous studies were conducted with simpler model configurations.

Abstract The large-eddy-simulation technique is introduced. The mathematical formulation is presented, and several examples are discussed. Some issues related to the resolution of the wall layer are reviewed. Challenges and possible future developments are addressed.
