Eddy current generation enhancement using ferrite for electromagnetic acoustic transduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Eddy currents are generated in an electrically conducting surface as a step in electromagnetic acoustic transduction (EAT). In eddy current testing, wire coils are often wound onto a ferrite core to increase the generated eddy current.

Differential expression of cancer‐related genes supports prediction of poor response to first‐line treatments in T‐ALL pediatric patients with high minimal residual disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

The use of disjunct eddy sampling methods for the determination of ecosystem level fluxes of trace gases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The concept of disjunct eddy sampling (DES) for use in measuring ecosystem-level micrometeorological fluxes is re-examined. The governing equations are discussed as well as other practical considerations and guidelines concerning this sampling method

Estimating eddy diffusivities from noisy Lagrangian observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The problem of estimating the eddy diffusivity from Lagrangian observations in the presence of measurement error is studied in this paper. We consider a class of incompressible velocity fields for which is can be rigorously proved that the small scale ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Structure–Function Decoupling of the Sensorimotor and Default Mode Networks in Black Americans With MS

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

The prospect of using LES and DES in engineering design, and the research required to get there [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In this paper we try to look into the future to divine how large eddy and detached eddy simulations (LES and DES, respectively) will be used in the engineering design process about 20-30 years from now.

Normal‐Appearing White Matter Injury Mediates Chronic Deep Venous Hypoxia and Disease Progression in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To explore how cerebral hypoxia and Normal‐Appearing White Matter (NAWM) integrity affect MS lesion burden and clinical course. Methods Seventy‐nine MS patients, including 13 clinically isolated syndrome (CIS) patients and 66 relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients, and 44 healthy controls (HCs) were recruited from ...

Semidiurnal Internal Tide Interference in the Northern South China Sea

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Multiwave interference plays a crucial role in shaping the spatial variations of internal tides. Based on a combination of in situ mooring and altimeter data, interference of semidiurnal internal tides was investigated in the northern South China Sea ...
