EDFA gain optimization for WDM system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The gain flatness of erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) is a key device for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) application in modern optical network systems.

GAIN AND NOISE FIGURE PERFORMANCE OF ERBIUM DOPED FIBER AMPLIFIERS (EDFA)

open access: yesElectrica, 2004
Fiber loss is a fundamental limitation in realising long haul point-to-point fiber optical communication links and optical networks. One of the advanced technologies achieved in recent years is the advent of erbium doped fiber amplifiers (EDFAs) that has

EDFA Anti-Irradiation Schemes for Inter-Satellite Optical DPSK Communication Systems

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2019
The uprising of rare-earth-doped fiber amplifier technology provides an effective solution to signal power compensation for interstellar optical communication systems, but significant signal power attenuation induced by spatial irradiation has ever been ...

Sensitivity Evaluation for Global Perturbations in Non‐Hermitian Skin‐Effect Sensors

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 5, 16 March 2026.
Non‐Hermitian sensing against local and global noise. Conventional non‐Hermitian sensors focus on sensitivity against a static local boundary defect. Our work extends that framework to detect global perturbations. Using synthetic photonic lattices, we experimentally verify that sensitivity to global static and dynamic disorder scales exponentially with

Rayleigh-Based Raman Fiber Laser With Passive Erbium-Doped Fiber for Secondary Pumping Effect in Remote L-Band Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
This work focuses on a secondary pumping scheme for remote L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier (R-EDFA) generated by integrating Rayleigh-based ultralong Raman fiber laser (ULRFL) with a section of passive erbium-doped fiber (EDF). A selective wavelength

Four-wave mixing in EDFAs

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1999
A study is presented of four-wave mixing (FWM) in L- and C-band EDFAs. From experiments, it has been observed that FWM scales with the length of Er-doped fibre. It is shown theoretically that FWM crosstalk from EDFAs considerably exceeds that from NZDSF fibre in DWDM L-band systems and leads to a penalty of up to 1 dB in terms of the Q parameter.

Experimental Demonstration of Unified Kerr Nonlinear Effective Lengths for Gallium Phosphide‐On‐Insulator Photonic Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
The four‐wave mixing conversion efficiencies of both the waveguides and the microresonators exhibit a well‐correlated relation versus their effective lengths, confirming the unified theoretical framework. These experimentally validated findings offer a fresh perspective on Kerr nonlinearity and pave the way toward advancing the development of highly ...

Gain and Noise figure analysis of L-band EDFA

open access: yes, 2017
Gain of L-band EDFA has been analyzed. The effect of change in the length of doped fiber and the use of various pumps on EDFA has been examined. EDFA exhibits a maximum gain of 16.80 dB at 188.2 THz at 980 nm pump (length of doped fiber = 150m, pump ...
