Admixture and Selection Driven by El Niño-Southern Oscillation Events Shape the Genetic Structure of Octopus mimus-O. hubbsorum Complex Across the Humboldt and South Equatorial Current Transition Zone. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Whole‐genome sequencing of the Octopus mimus–O. hubbsorum complex in the eastern Pacific identified two main genetic clades—northern warm‐water and southern cold‐water lineages—with a broad admixture zone during ENSO years where admixed individuals reflect both their genomic makeup and local environments.

Revealing the Altermagnetism in Hematite via XMCD Imaging and Anomalous Hall Electrical Transport. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Mater
This study combines X‐ray magnetic imaging and electrical transport to uncover the anomalous Hall effect in hematite, an insulating oxide exhibiting unconventional altermagnetic properties. Imaging reveals distinct magnetic domains linked to crystal symmetry, and angular‐dependent transport measurements highlight unusual symmetry‐driven conductivity ...

Up, Down, and All Around: Courtship Behavior Deviants and Genetic Divergence in the Reef-Dwelling Bioluminescent Ostracod, Photeros annecohenae (Myodocopida: Cypridinidae). [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Species that have complex courtship behaviors are some of the most evolutionarily diverse lineages observed in nature. Here, we quantify differences in the courtship behavior, morphology, and genetics of a group of bioluminescent marine ostracod residents of the Mesoamerican barrier reef of Belize.

Historical Contingency Drives Freshwater Microbial Community Assembly Across Successional Time. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Using a 60‐day full‐factorial reciprocal transplant microcosm experiment, we quantified the relative contributions of historical contingency, environmental selection, and dispersal limitation to freshwater bacterial community assembly. We show a pronounced temporal shift from early dispersal‐driven assembly to late‐stage dominance of historical ...

High phylogenetic turnover magnifies evolutionary relatedness along bacterial primary succession. [PDF]

open access: yesEcology
Abstract Current models of microbial primary succession postulate that stochasticity dominates the early stages of soil community assembly, generating phylogenetically random patterns that are lost as abiotic and biotic filters gain relevance. We hypothesized that, under severe environmental stress, abiotic filters may override stochasticity from early

Fostering Physician-Patient Partnerships: The Importance of Embracing the Ontological and Epistemological Understandings of Knowledge. [PDF]

open access: yesHealth Expect
ABSTRACT Introduction Healthcare is becoming substantially complex in part due to greater multimorbidity, climate‐related health issues, and problems related to access to care. While patient partnership is widely advocated as a strategy to adapt medical practice to the complexity, significant barriers persist.
