Nonlinear gyrofluid computation of edge localised ideal ballooning modes

open access: yes, 2010
Three dimensional electromagnetic gyrofluid simulations of the ideal ballooning mode blowout scenario for tokamak edge localized modes (ELMs) are presented.

Plasma performance and operational space with an RMP-ELM suppressed edge

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The operational space and global performance of plasmas with edge-localized modes (ELMs) suppressed by resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) are surveyed by comparing AUG, DIII-D, EAST, and KSTAR stationary operating points.

Edge-localized-modes in tokamaks

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2014
Edge-localized-modes (ELMs) are a ubiquitous feature of H-mode in tokamaks. When gradients in the H-mode transport barrier grow to exceed the MHD stability limit the ELM instability grows explosively, rapidly transporting energy and particles onto open field lines and material surfaces.

Statistical localization: From strong fragmentation to strong edge modes

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 2020
Certain disorder-free Hamiltonians can be non-ergodic due to a \emph{strong fragmentation} of the Hilbert space into disconnected sectors. Here, we characterize such systems by introducing the notion of `statistically localized integrals of motion' (SLIOM), whose eigenvalues label the connected components of the Hilbert space.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Edge mode based graphene nanomechanical resonators for high-sensitivity mass sensor

open access: yes, 2018
We perform both molecular dynamics simulations and theoretical analysis to study the sensitivity of the graphene nanomechanical resonator based mass sensors, which are actuated following the global extended mode or the localized edge mode.

Edge-coherent-mode nature of the small edge localized modes in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Plasmas, 2014
High-confinement regime with high-frequency and low-energy-loss small edge localized modes (ELMs) was achieved in Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak by using the lower hybrid current drive and ion cyclotron resonance heating with lithium wall conditioning.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Current and charge distributions of the fractional quantum Hall liquids with edges

open access: yes, 1996
An effective Chern-Simons theory for the quantum Hall states with edges is studied by treating the edge and bulk properties in a unified fashion. An exact steady-state solution is obtained for a half-plane geometry using the Wiener-Hopf method.

Strain-induced modifications of transport in gated graphene nanoribbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We investigate the effects of homogeneous and inhomogeneous deformations and edge disorder on the conductance of gated graphene nanoribbons. Under increasing homogeneous strain the conductance of such devices initially decreases before it acquires a ...
