Barrier, Mechanical and Antimicrobial Properties of Yam Starch Film With Cássia Cinnamon Essential Oil and Its Application in Strawberry Storage

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
Chitosan and cinnamon oil reduced film thickness and improved water vapor barrier properties. Cinnamon oil in yam starch films showed strong antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus. Yam starch films with chitosan and cinnamon oil effectively inhibited fungal growth on strawberries.

Surface tension propulsion of fungal spores by use of microdroplets [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
Many edible mushrooms eject their spores (about 10 microns in size) at high speed (about 1 m/s) using surface tension forces in a few microseconds. Basically the coalescence of a droplet with the spore generates the necessary momentum to eject the spore. We have detailed this mechanism in \cite{noblin2}.

Analysis of the Structure and Seasonal Variability of Food Waste in Urbanized Areas: Possible Actions for Achieve Sustainable Development

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Food waste is a major global challenge with profound environmental implications. As urban populations continue to grow, effective waste management strategies will become increasingly important. This study aims to quantify food waste generated within mixed municipal waste from residential buildings and to analyze its seasonal variations.
