Unfair items detection in educational measurement [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2012
Measurement professionals cannot come to an agreement on the definition of the term 'item fairness'. In this paper a continuous measure of item unfairness is proposed. The more the unfairness measure deviates from zero, the less fair the item is. If the measure exceeds the cutoff value, the item is identified as definitely unfair.

Methods for working with problem residents in medical physics residency education

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Medical physics residency training programs may occasionally encounter residents requiring additional intervention beyond normal training efforts. In the literature, these residents are referred to as “problem” residents. While the physician literature on the subject is valuable, this paper specifically focuses on dealing with a problem ...

Assessment of a medical physics educational program for science teachers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction Medical physics is a fulfilling profession where physics is applied to advance human health. However, many are uninformed of the role of physicists in medicine, and students are unaware of this career pathway. This study presents a pilot 1‐year program for science teachers to learn about physics in medicine and share with students
