Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Effect of Stiffeners on Shear Lag in Steel Box Girders

open access: yesAl-Khawarizmi Engineering Journal, 2012
This paper studies the effects of stiffeners on shear lag in steel box girders with stiffened flanges. A three-dimensional linear finite element analysis using STAAD.Pro V8i program has been employed to evaluate and determine the actual top flange stress

An estimate of the branching ratio for Z -> nu nubar gamma gamma

open access: yes, 2012
The effective interaction for two neutrino, two photon coupling is used to find an approximate width for the decay of the Z boson into the nu nubar gamma gamma final state.Comment: Three pages, 2 ...

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

The influence of droplet size on line tension

open access: yes, 2004
Within the effective interfacial Hamiltonian approach we evaluate the excess line free energy associated with cylinder-shaped droplets sessile on a stripe-like chemical inhomogeneity of a planar substrate. In the case of short-range intermolecular forces

Effect of the slit widths. Appendix A [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
The aim of this mathematical treatment is to prove that any distortion of the gaussian intensity distribution of the beam, which may be caused by the finite width of the slits, is small, provided that the slit widths are not large with respect to the source size and divergence.

Effects of the PDO Phase on the Tropical Belt Width

open access: yesJournal of Climate, 2012
Recent studies have shown that the tropical belt (TB) has progressively expanded since at least the late 1970s. This trend has been largely attributed to the radiative forcing due to greenhouse gas (GHG) increase and stratospheric ozone depletion, even if an influence of sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies has been also suggested.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...
