Influence of Egg Weight on Egg Breakage in the Field

open access: yesJournal of Applied Poultry Research, 1992
Abstract The weights of cracked and intact eggs were compared in 24 commercial Leghorn flocks at 35-40, 52-58, and 65-70 weeks of age. For eggs weighed before traveling through the egg handling and collection system, cracked eggs were 1.2 g/egg heavier than non-cracked eggs at 52-58 weeks of age, but no difference was observed at the other two ages ...

Controlled Egg Weight Loss During Incubation of Turkey Eggs

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1987
Weight loss (12%) of turkey eggs in a commercial incubator by a weekly adjustment of relative humidity (RH) was compared in four independent trials with the industry standard of maintaining 58% RH. Trials 1 and 2 were conducted with eggs from one flock of recycled hens during their 14th and 20th week of lay, respectively.

The Relationship of Egg Shell Weight to Cracked Eggs

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1965
Abstract A MEASUREMENT of the egg shell that is directly related to degree of incidence of cracked eggs on the farm and during processing is needed. We have assumed on several occasions that various measurements, such as shell thickness, specific gravity of the whole egg, and shell strength (puncture, impact, or pressure), were directly related to ...
