Understanding Barriers to Human‐Wildlife Coexistence: Evidence From Southern Sri Lanka

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
We investigated the barriers to coexistence with wild elephants (Elephas maximus maximus) as experienced by farmer communities in Southern Sri Lanka. Through an ethnographic study, we identified socio‐political drivers, institutional and structural challenges, and power and corruption as the main themes of barriers to coexistence.

Progressive Cellularization of Blastoderm and Extraembryonic Tissue Formation in the Ant Camponotus floridanus

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, Volume 346, Issue 5, Page 411-421, July 2026.
Illustration of the process of cellularization in Camponotus floridanus (top row) compared to Drosophila melanogaster (bottom row). Progressive direct formation of differentiating blastoderm mode is depicted using hexagons that represent energids (without borders) and cells (with borders). BLADE‐ON‐PETIOLE Genes Enable Genetic Bottleneck Mitigation Through Cross‐Species Repurposing of Floral Persistence Traits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 32, 9 June 2026.
This study shows that BLADE‐ON‐PETIOLE (BOP) proteins regulate floral abscission and senescence in tomato by interacting with TFAM1 to form transcriptional condensates controlling the ARABIDOPSIS THALIANA HOMEOBOX GENE 1 (ATH1)‐mediated abscission pathway.
