Mitochondrial presequences are more than just address labels

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Most mitochondrial proteins are synthesized in the cytosol as precursor proteins with N‐terminal presequences. These presequences serve as targeting signals that facilitate the binding to mitochondrial surface receptors and translocation across the mitochondrial membranes.

The endoplasmic reticulum in mitochondrial protein targeting: A neuronal perspective on organelle crosstalk

open access: yesProtein Science, Volume 35, Issue 3, March 2026.
Abstract Neurons depend on tightly regulated spatial proteostasis to maintain function across their extended morphology. The endoplasmic reticulum (ER), traditionally known for its function in protein synthesis, folding, and trafficking, has long been recognized as a central platform for directing proteins to organelles of the secretory and endocytic ...

Trends in Dietary Exosome‐Like Nanoparticles: Preparation, Nutritional Functions, Bioactive Delivery Efficacy, Human Health Effects, and Future Product Development

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
This graphical abstract summarizes the current advances in dietary exosome‐like nanoparticles (ELNs), highlighting their biogenesis pathways (MVB‐dependent, vacuole‐mediated, and EXPO routes), molecular composition (nucleic acids, lipids, proteins, and bioactive compounds), and major preparation strategies including differential ultracentrifugation ...

Mitophagy and Bip–PERK–eIF2α–ATF4 Axis‐Mediated ER Stress Mediate Miriplatin‐Loaded Liposome's Anti‐Colorectal Cancer Action

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 59, Issue 3, March 2026.
LMPt enters the cell mainly through caveolin‐mediated endocytosis, and then fuses with endosomes and lysosomes to deliver MPt to mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum to induce mitophagy based on the fusion of lysosomes and mitochondria, and endoplasmic reticulum stress and subsequent apoptosis via the Bip–PERK–eIF2α–ATF4 axis to exert an anti ...
